Today continues a favorite series featuring moms who run small businesses here in Katy.  Mom-run businesses are growing, and people now, more than ever, are taking chances and following their dreams.  I’m excited to feature some of these businesses on my blog each week for the next few weeks.

Today, we get to meet Stefani with Sugar Momma Sweets and Treats!

**********************************************

1) What is your business/shop name?

My Business’ name is Sugar Momma Sweets and Treats.

17240640_1623134537703748_3754305040586466493_o

2) What do you sell/ what service do you provide?

I offer gourmet, homemade baked goodies that provide an alternative to store bought treats. My menu items include cookies, cupcakes, cakes and other sweet treats, all offered in a large variety of flavors! In addition, I also offer lactation cookies. These cookies are packed with loads of ingredients that have been proven to help promote milk production. And, they are fenugreek free!

3) How did you decide to start your business?

I have ALWAYS had a passion for baking. My Grandmother gifted me a kid-friendly cookbook when I was 6 years old, and it was my greatest treasure! I’m sure I drove my mom crazy because I was always wanting to bake the next recipe in the book.  I have always been known around my friends and co-workers as the one that will always bring homemade sweets to parties and get-togethers. As my cookies and cakes became more and more requested and complemented, I figured “Why not” try out a small baking business? I love baking and I love sharing my sweets with others. So, Sugar Momma Sweets and Treats was born!

4) What is your mission statement?

Obviously, I have shared that I have a love for baking and sharing the joy of sweets with others. But when it comes down to the main reason of why I am doing what I do… I love being able to be at home with my kiddos! I want to be able to still help contribute to our family’s income but without having to put my children in outside care. This business has provided me the opportunity to accomplish just that and I am so, so thankful!

5) What is your most popular product/ what types of clients do you help?

My gourmet cookies are probably my most favorite item. When someone tries them for the first time and realizes the stark contrast between them and a store-bought cookie, they are immediately hooked! Some of my most ordered cookies include the Buttered Pecan, Mexican Wedding, Snickerdoodle and the tried-and-true Chocolate Chip! For the cupcakes, the Chocolate Mocha, Snickerdoodle, Carrot Ultimate Oreo and Wedding Cake with Raspberry Filling are some of the most popular.17917448_1672347899449078_4518080898902601997_o

6) What motivates you to grow your business?

Eventually, I would love to grow my business into a storefront bakery that offers specialty coffee and craft beer (craft beer is for people like my husband that don’t particularly like sweets or coffee!) I would love for this dream of mine to continue to grow and to be an example to my children of what having a dream and pursuing your dream can look like.

7) Any tips for balancing family life with business life?

Set a schedule when you need to. When my business began to take off, I definitely struggled with spending so much time in the Kitchen and too much time putting my kids in front of the TV. So for my busy seasons, I pick days of the week that I will be “working” and the other days are just family days and no working is allowed. This helps me also schedule other daily tasks, such as laundry, grocery shopping and cleaning.

19055833_1734015493282318_8439995819630709109_o

8) Any words of wisdom for moms who are thinking of taking the leap into starting their own business?

Just do it! If you have a talent to offer, let it shine! I truly believe the Lord has instilled in each of us something special that we can offer and once you find it and its something that can benefit your family and/or others… hone into it and make it happen!

My mouth is water now, Stefani!  Thank you for sharing your business with us.  You can find Sugar Momma Sweets and Treats on Facebook :)

this week back to school

It’s back to school time!  Can you believe how fast this summer went?  I have to confess:  when June started, I thought, “Ugh.  This is going to be one long, hot summer.”  It was definitely hot, but looking back, it doesn’t seem so long.

I also have another confession.  I’ve been working on a little “side project” this year:

20728021_10107876583430695_6903208826927623402_n

Last Tuesday, I had my 3rd (and final) daughter!  I’m excited to introduce you to her for a number of reasons, the main one being that she is the cutest little baby born since my last cute little baby was born.  Also, because this pregnancy really took it’s toll on me physically (tired, sick, tired of being sick, etc.) so I’m glad to be feeling normal again and hopefully I can pick back up with keeping you up to date on all the great things Katy has to offer your family.

If you have emailed me or messaged me since January, I probably didn’t get back to you.  It was survival mode around here.  Now, I’m feeling mentally back to normal.  Physically, I’ll be back to normal in a few weeks.

So, with all of that said, let’s see what’s happening this week:

Today continues a favorite series featuring moms who run small businesses here in Katy.  Mom-run businesses are growing, and people now, more than ever, are taking chances and following their dreams.  I’m excited to feature some of these businesses on my blog each week for the next few weeks.

Today, we’re meeting Erin with LipSense!

********************************************

1) What is your business/shop name?

Peace, Love & LipStick

Senegence

2) What do you sell/ what service do you provide?

I am an independent distributor for SeneGence, the company known for our product, LipSense.

3) How did you decide to start your business?

Last summer, I went to a family wedding and while I was there my mother-in-law introduced me to LipSense.   She asked if I wanted to try it and I absolutely loved that it lasted so long.    Within a week, I signed up as a distributor to earn discounts on my own product.  My business really started with me sharing the product with my family and friends and then they told their family and friends…and here we are!!

Sene 2

4) What is your mission statement?

I have two goals for this business.  Personally, I would love for my family to reach a point of financial freedom through the blessings from this business. On the business side, I really want to provide people with a product that can help them be more confident, and LipSense and the rest of the SeneGence products can definitely do that.

5) What is your most popular product/ what types of clients do you help?

My most popular product is called  LipSense, a waterproof, kiss-proof, smear-proof, liquid lip color that lasts up to 18 hours before you need to reapply.  It is truly an amazing lip color that seriously stays put for hours!   LipSense works for women of all ages!  Many dance teams and competitive cheer companies use LipSense so that their whole squad has a matching lip color that doesn’t smear.  I personally wear it every single day and thing it is pretty amazing!

Sene 3

6) What motivates you to grow your business?

The potential I see for my family through the income from the business and the ability to provide that same blessing to others.

Sene 2

7) Any tips for balancing family life with business life?

In the beginning, it was very difficult for me to balance my time between Peace, Love & LipStick, my full time job, and my family.  I would spend hours working on advertising, talking to customers, etc.  Over the past year, I have started setting time limits for myself each day for the amount of time I will devote to Peace, Love, & LipStick,  When that time is up for the day, I set the business to the side.

8)  Any words of wisdom for moms who are thinking of taking the leap into starting their own business?

Pray about it!   Starting a business is a big commitment but can be so rewarding.   If you are married, make sure you have your spouse’s support.

 ***************************************

Thanks, Erin!  For what it’s worth, my favorite colors are Caramel Apple and Bombshell :) You can find her shopping link here.
